​Special Commission of Inquiry into the Greyhound Racing Industry in New South Wales

The Honourable Michael McHugh AC QC is appointed by Letters Patent issued in the name of the Governor of New South Wales on 6 May 2015 to inquire into the Greyhound Racing Industry in NSW.

On 30 March 2016, the Governor extended the date for Commissioner McHugh AC QC to provide his report on the Special Commission of Inquiry into the Greyhound Racing Industry in NSW. The reporting date is now 31 May 2016.

The Commissioner is assisted by Stephen Rushton SC, David Kell of Counsel and the Crown Solicitor.

'Governance and Social Contribution' and 'Breeding' Issues Papers

The Commissioner issued papers seeking input:

  • in relation to the social contribution the greyhound racing industry in New South Wales is said to make to the lives of participants and communities; and if the industry in New South Wales is to continue, whether its current structure, including its governance, is appropriate or whether an alternative model should be adopted. 
  • The Commissioner issued a paper seeking input about the elimination or substantial reduction of "wastage" in the greyhound racing industry in NSW.

Responses to these Issues Papers are no longer being accepted. Responses received are now being considered by the Commission.
